Which games like Baldur’s Gate 3 are worth installing on a Deck

Table of Contents
You finished Baldur’s Gate 3 — a fair amount of it in bed, on the Deck — and every list you open now recommends the same six games without once mentioning whether they work on a handheld.
That is the gap here. Every game below is rated against Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility system, and where that rating oversells the experience, this article says so.
If your constraint is taste rather than hardware, the full set matched to what you actually loved about Baldur’s Gate 3 handles that. If your constraint is what will still be readable and running at 40% battery, keep going.
The short answer, and what Verified really means

Two of the big cRPG answers are Deck Verified: Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. Wildermyth is a third, much smaller one.
The best handheld experience on this list has no Valve rating at all, and the most-recommended game in the genre is the one to skip.
📊 Verified Specs — Steam Deck compatibility, checked 18 September 2026
Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition — Verified
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader — Verified
Wildermyth — Verified
Expeditions: Rome — Playable
Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game — not rated by Valve
Verified means Valve tested input, display, performance and system support. It does not promise the game is still comfortable at hour sixty. Playable means it runs, but you do the work — remapping controls, or reading text sized for a monitor.
What we tested for, and why most BG3 lists fail here
Three things break a turn-based RPG on a handheld, and none of them show up in a genre comparison.
Text sized for a desk becomes unreadable at arm’s length on a 1280×800 screen. Unity-built cRPGs push the chips hard — players consistently report Pillars of Eternity sitting in the 25–45fps range on the same hardware that runs lighter games at 60. And a game that draws heavily gives you two hours of battery, not five.
Being straight about our evidence: nobody here has logged Deck hours on these five titles. Every claim below traces to a developer announcement, an official store listing, or a player report clearly labelled as one.
The two Valve has actually verified
Both of these were verified by the studios that made them, not by a list like this one.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition
Platforms: PC (Windows, macOS), consoles · Mode: Single-player, online and local co-op · Deck: Verified.
The environmental chaos BG3 inherited, with a bigger party and co-op that genuinely works.
Surfaces conduct, burn and freeze into each other the same way, but the systems are less guarded and more exploitable. Four characters instead of BG3’s usual party means the turn economy is wider and the party-splitting more useful. Larian confirmed the Verified status in its own Steam announcement.
Who it’s not for: anyone who came for BG3’s cinematic dialogue — this is a systems game with a story attached, and it is long.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
Platforms: PC, consoles · Mode: Single-player · Deck: Verified.
The companion-driven party cRPG where conversation reroutes the plot, in grim sci-fi instead of fantasy.
Your ideological alignment shifts how companions react and which resolutions stay open, which is the BG3 loop in different clothing. Combat runs on stacking momentum rather than spell slots, so turns build toward something instead of rationing.
The detail nobody mentions: Owlcat did the handheld work here. The game launched Playable and was upgraded to Verified after the studio addressed three specific issues.
Who it’s not for: readers with no patience for 40K vocabulary — the opening hours assume you know what an Inquisitor is.

The one nobody recommends, and probably should
The best-running game on this list is the one Valve has never tested — and the reason is almost funny.
Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game
Platforms: PC (Windows) · Mode: Single-player · Deck: Not rated by Valve.
The dialogue and skill-check layer BG3 players love, where talking your way through is a real build rather than a fallback.
Quests resolve through combat, stealth or conversation, and the branches close permanently behind you. The camera is fixed isometric — it pans but does not rotate — which is exactly why it costs the hardware so little.
It has no rating because the developers have said they cannot obtain a Deck in their region to submit it for testing. Players running it report a capped 30fps at roughly 8 watts, which is the lowest draw of anything here. Its Steam store page carries a Very Positive standing.
⚠️ Heads Up: This is a punishing game. Fights are few, deliberate and unforgiving of a scattered build, and there is no official compatibility rating to fall back on if it misbehaves on your unit. Buy it inside Steam’s two-hour refund window and find out early.
Who it’s not for: anyone who wants BG3’s generosity — Colony Ship lets you lock yourself out of content and does not apologise.
Two more that fit a handheld
Wildermyth
Platforms: PC (Windows, macOS, Linux) · Mode: Single-player · Deck: Verified.
The part of BG3 where you got attached to people, generated fresh every campaign.
Heroes age, take permanent injuries, form attachments and retire into legend, so the party is a cast you accumulate rather than one you recruit. Fights are tight tactical grids that suit short sessions. The developers had it re-evaluated from Playable to Verified.
Who it’s not for: readers who want authored writing — these stories are assembled from parts, and the seams show.
Expeditions: Rome
Platforms: PC (Windows) · Mode: Single-player · Deck: Playable.
Party-based turn-based combat wrapped in a political campaign where your choices harden into reputation.
Five companions carry their own arcs and react to how you rule, and battles reward positioning over raw numbers rather than dice luck. Logic Artists shipped a controller patch that explicitly added Steam Deck compatibility, which is why it clears Playable rather than sitting untested.
Who it’s not for: anyone expecting Verified-grade smoothness — players describe it as pushing the hardware and running slowly, though completable.
All five, side by side

Shorter campaigns matter more on a handheld — the Switch 2 picks skew that way by necessity.
The one everyone recommends that you should not buy for a Deck
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a good game and a bad handheld purchase.
It is rated Playable, not Verified, while the newer game from the same studio is Verified — a contrast no competing list draws. Players report it running in the high 30s early and degrading as the campaign grows, with heavy battery drain and load times that were a complaint long before the Deck existed. It is also a dense reading game, which is the worst possible property at 1280×800.
And wait on Solasta II. It entered Early Access in March 2026 with part of Act 1, a level cap of 4 and no co-op — too thin to be anyone’s next hundred hours.
